Apply for a K9

We encourage all public safety agencies in need of a K9 to fill out a grant application.

Application Process:

Note: Applications are accepted and reviewed year-round. Grants are awarded as funding allows. We will contact you if we need additional information.

1. Fill out an online grant application via AwardForce. Please be sure to submit the following as attachments with your AwardForce application. You may also email the requested supplemental documents below to apply@k9s4cops.org

Supplemental documents needed:

Your application will be reviewed by our team, and if further information is needed, a K9s4COPs team member will contact you. K9s are granted throughout the year and are determined based on need and funding availability. If your agency is selected, you will receive a call from us. You will be sent K9 grant acceptance paperwork, including a grant agreement to sign, an agency contact information form, and a letter from your agency accepting the K9.
Note that all grantees will be asked to submit the following once your K9 has graduated from training and is working: annual health report, quarterly statistics, photos and/or stories we may use to promote why K9s are so crucial to our community, and a signed image release form so we may use the image of you and your K9 on our website and marketing material.
If you have not heard from us within one year from the date you submitted your application, and your agency still requires a K9, please submit your application again with any updated information. We are happy to address any questions you may have about the application process. Please send any questions to apply@k9s4cops.org or call 936-825-9900.
Please note: A K9s4COPs grant consists of a K9 and initial training for the K9 and its hander. We do not offer monetary grants or reimbursements for K9 purchases. We do not train K9s in-house or accept homeless dogs/puppies as donations. Our K9s come from approved and licensed K9 facilities and trainers that specialize in working dogs and can provide a broad selection of K9s for our grantees to select from. We go through lengthy measures to ensure that recipients are satisfied with their K9 selections and receive all necessary documentation, including health certificates, required certifications, and passports.
Want to hold your own K9s4COPs fundraiser to help fund your K9?
Then consider one of these great ways listed below to help your agency get a K9 quicker. Please note that your agency must be approved by one of our team members before you start fundraising to ensure your agency is eligible for a K9 grant, and you must have submitted a grant application.
Start a “Fund-A-K9” crowd-funding virtual campaign:                                     We create a fundraising page and donation link specifically for your agency. We can customize it with photos and a message explaining why you need a K9 and how it can benefit your community. You can then share this information with your community and encourage them to contribute towards the cost of the K9. All donations will go directly to K9s4COPs, are 100% tax-deductible, and will be saved in a restricted funds campaign. This money will be used to purchase the K9 and provide training for the handler and the K9. Contact us at info@K9s4cops.org for more information or to get started.
Start a social media virtual fundraiser for your agency:
Set up your virtual fundraiser for K9s4COPs via Facebook fundraisers and share with your community to help contribute towards the cost of your K9.  If you need assistance with this, please let us know.
Host a special event:
Plan your own K9s4COPs special event, such as a fun run, bowling competition, golf tournament, or anything else you can dream up, and present a check to K9s4COPs after the event.
Ask local business to sponsor your K9:
Another alternative way to help fund your K9 is to go directly to the businesses in your community and ask them to sponsor your K9 with a donation to K9s4COPs. They will also have the opportunity to name the K9.

"Not only are our handlers more equipped to do their job safely and more efficient, but our children's schools and our streets are safer."

- Deputy Clayton Marshall, Harris County Constable Precinct 4

"Having been a K9 handler for ten years, I know firsthand that there is no greater 'tool' that can be utilized in the line of duty. A life saving device that not only becomes our partner, but our best friend, that would give their lives to preserve ours. There is no stronger bond...and for that, I am extremely thankful."

- Deputy James Glaze, Harris County Sheriff’s Office

“If it were not for K9s4COPs, I would not be where I am today in my K-9 career. The impact that K9s4COPs has on the community cannot be measured. Thank you so much K9s4COPs for everything you have done for me and my fellow brothers in blue. My family thanks for you providing the best and bringing me home safe at night."

- Dep. Kenny Taylor, Harris County Sheriff Office

“People do not understand we would not have a career law enforcement without these 4-legged partners. Thank you K9s4COPs for allowing me such a valuable tool to complete my work each and every day. The bad guys are not grateful, but on behalf of me and my family we certainly are!”

- Deputy Larry Graves, Harris County Sheriff's Office
