K9 Odin

Howdy! My name is Deputy Andrew Blauser and I work for the Waller County Sheriff’s Office in Texas. I would like to tell you about my partner K9 Odin. Odin is a 4 year old German Shepherd.I received K9 Odin on a grant from the organization K9s4COPs in April of 2017. We completed our lengthy academy in August of 2017. What I would like to share with you occurred on Thanksgiving Night of 2017. I am sitting at home with my 9 months pregnant wife and my family enjoying their company on Thanksgiving at our home in Katy, Texas. I see the horrible news that a Texas State Trooper named Damon Allen had been shot and killed along I45 while working holiday traffic. The person who did this fled the scene in an unknown direction. Hours pass, suddenly I get a call from a coworker who tells me to come to work that they had found Trooper Allen’s suspected murderer and he had again attempted to take a Deputies life and fled into a wooded area. I quickly got ready, kissed my family goodbye, loaded up Odin and rushed to the scene. While I cannot discuss specifically what occured at this time, the decision was made that because of the murder suspects actions, Odin would be utilized to capture the murder suspect. Odin performed perfectly and bravely captured the murderer suspect so that no other Police Officers would be hurt that day, myself included. In fact the next day my son was born. Odin made sure I survived to see my son born. K9 Odin is my Hero Dog and my best friend.

K9 Flash

K-9 Flash was found in an animal shelter when she was only 9 months old. She was picked up on the streets of Everett, WA, with no home, no name, and no family. We were starting a Narcotics K-9 course at the Washington State Patrol Academy in Sept of 2005, when we were evaluating dogs in shelters who possess a good hunt, air scent, retrieve, and prey drive. Flash excelled in all of those areas, so we took a chance on her and included her in the class just one day before she was to be euthanized. Once she had her chance, Flash excelled in Narcotics detection and graduated as the only dog to score 100% on her certification. She was assigned as the first Narcotics K-9 on Patrol at the Yakima Police Dept. while assisting to two DEA Narcotics Task Force Teams, Regional SWAT Team, and the Patrol Division, K-9 Flash had over 3000 deployments in her career with over 2200 Narcotic related finds and seizures. When Flash retired in 2013, she was just getting started. Because of her fortitude of surviving and her will to be so successful, she inspired her handler to start a national nonprofit to take care of retired K-9 Heroes like her with medical assistance, food, and end of duty services. Most people don’t know that when K-9 Heroes like Flash retire they lose all funding from the agencies they served. Therefore in 2016, K-9 Flash was the sole inspiration for the start of Project K-9 Hero, she now has her own children’s book (K9 Flash Becomes a Hero!) and travels the nation reading it at schools inspiring children

Reel ‘Em In Foundation Recap
What an exciting start to the summer for K9s4COPs and K9s4KIDs. We are incredibly grateful to partner with the Brian Robison Reel ‘Em In Foundation for the third year in a row.

The Texas fishing tournament raised over $100,000 and we just recently had another successful tournament in Minnesota with all proceeds benefitting K9s4COPs!

Brian and Jayme work countless hours for their foundation. We are so thankful to have their support and the many others who help to make these tournaments a huge success! K9s4COPs would not be what it is today without their continuous support. We are already planning for the tournaments next year and can’t wait!

Stopping crime, one K9 at a time!
Thank each of you for your continued support of K9s4COPs and K9s4KIDs. Each year, K9s4COPs is adding more K9s on the streets and in schools to fight crime. As we continue to grow, so does our need for support. K9s4COPs was founded to bridge the gap and ensure that a K9s cost never keeps an Officer from having their K9 partner. You can be a part of the important work of K9s4COPs and K9s4KIDs and help us continue to stop crime, one K9 at a time!

Straight bass, homie: Randy Moss’ team wins fishing tournament

Making predictions is a risky business, but Randy Moss doesn’t shy away from much.

The soon-to-be Hall of Famer and one of the greatest Minnesota Vikings in franchise history was back in the Land of 10,000 lakes last weekend for current Vikings defensive end Brian Robison’s charity event.

‘I bet you we are going to win’

Robison’s charity is called the “Reel ‘Em In Foundation”; as you’d expect, his big annual event includes a fishing tournament. This year they fished in the small town of Wabasha, Minnesota (immortalized in the “Grumpy Old Men” movies), and there was an auction the night before the tournament.

Wabasha resident David Meyer paid $7,000 for the chance to be on Moss’ fishing team during the auction, and after Moss said, “We’re going to enjoy ourselves, and I bet we’re going to win this.”

He wasn’t wrong: at the end of the day on Saturday, the team of Moss, Meyer and pro fisherman Ott DeFoe were declared the winners.

But Robison wasn’t about to let Moss get all the glory for making his prediction come true.

“He backed it up, but he had a pretty good boat captain in Ott DeFoe,” Robison told the Vikings’ website. “He walked it, he talked it and came away with some hardware.”

Moss and Robison weren’t teammates in Minnesota – Robison was drafted in 2007, and by then Moss was in New England – but appreciated Moss, an avid outdoorsman, giving his time.

“He doesn’t have to say yes to this. For him to come out shows the type of character he has. I couldn’t be more appreciative of the guys that came out here,” Robison said “They are household names, and they know when they come here they are going to get bombarded by fans, but they embrace it and that’s what I love about it.”

Robison’s current teammates Linval Joseph and Everson Griffen were also part of the tournament.

Money raised helps police departments

Robison’s foundation has partnered with K9s4Cops, which helps departments get K9 partners to help their work in communities.

Thanks to past Reel ‘Em In Foundation tournaments, the sheriff’s department of Goodhue County, which neighbors Wabasha County, has three K9s. Last weekend, over $30,000 was raised for more dogs to be donated.

Robison’s father, Terry, spent 29 years in the Houston Police Department.

Mays Business School Supports K9s4COPs

As the semester comes to an end, the Strategic Philanthropy class at Mays Business School has been been busy deciding on how to distribute $62,500 in grant funding.

The students in the class evaluated 43 nonprofit applications from Bryan and College Station. K9s4COPs is so excited to announce we are one of the five nonprofits to receive funding. We are so grateful for the support from The Philanthropy Lab and a newfound partnership with the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library Foundation’s Community Grant Program, Texas A&M University, and Mays Business School. The $12,500 grant we received will go to purchase a K9 officer!
